Casa de Suenos

A Mediterranean revival style home that blends in perfectly with the charming atmosphere of St. Augustine graces Cordova Street, one of St. Augustine’s busiest and most popular thoroughfares. Trotting horse-drawn carriages, whirring tourist trolleys, and chattering clusters of sun-kissed tourists pass by this quiet corner without a second glance. This seemingly quiet two story home serves as a bed and breakfast called Casa de Suenos. This inviting home, also known as the House of Dreams,  proves that St. Augustine is teeming with haunted gems hidden in plain sight- often woven into the very fabric that makes up the backdrop of life in St. Augustine.    Casa de Suenos sits near what was once the Rosario Line, which was a protective barrier of cactus and a lush, incredibly sharp plant in the yucca family that locals call “Spanish bayonet”. The Rosario…

Scratches During Paranormal Investigations

Have you ever been on an investigation or watched one on television, and the investigators claim to be scratched, sporting long angry red welts down their arms, across their face, or even across their backs? These marks left on the skin seem to bridge the gap between our world and the ethereal. Could they truly…

Victorian Spirit Photography

Victorian spirit photography is an art form emerging in the 19th century that straddled the line between the worlds of the living and dead. It emerged as a testament to the era’s fascination with the afterlife and the unknown. The rise of spiritualism in this era saw the rise of spirit photography.    William H….

Wildwood Cemetery

Moultrie Church In a vaguely abandoned cemetery in the south St. Augustine sits a picturesque church, which looks just like any other found in the rural South. The little white church was built in 1877 and overlooks Wildwood Cemetery, a lonely cemetery with a somewhat abandoned, neglected atmosphere. The oldest legible grave in the cemetery reads 1880, but there are both physical and documented indications that the cemetery is much older. The church is younger than the cemetery and was originally to be built in another location; however, the building materials were delivered to the wrong place. Instead of transferring the materials to the originally planned location, the church was built on the spot, perhaps disturbing the resting dead in their peaceful location. Permanent Residents Of course, such a place is not without permanent residents. One day a researcher was…

Flagler College on King Street is one of the most recognizable symbols in St. Augustine. Built by Henry Flagler in 1888, the grand hotel was the crown jewel of St. Augustine’s elite. However, among the busy students lurks the ghostly spirit of Henry Flagler’s second wife, “Mad” Ida Alice. Ida Alice was the nurse…
