A Dixie House Adventure

The following story was told to us by one of our investigators on the P4I:

————–

Early one evening, one of our guides, Lew, arrived at Dixie House with two guests from our Everdark Express tour. As soon as he turned on the REM Pod we use in the Dixie House,  it lit up yellow -without making a sound. Moments later, the green light began blinking rapidly, and the REM Pod started emitting its signature tone.

Lew tried to use the SLS camera next, but even though the battery was fully charged, it wouldn’t stay on. This made him think of Marvin, one of the known spirits in Dixie House. Marvin is notorious for messing with equipment. During past investigations, Marvin was known to shut off the SLS camera mid-session, change the volume on the Portal V5,, and even made guests’ phones ring with no caller ID.

Next, the REM Pod started acting up again. It cycled through all its lights-green, yellow, blue, and pink-in a random sequence. Then it locked onto a solid red light and toned steadily, as if something were physically touching the antenna. This continued for about five seconds, then everything abruptly stopped. No lights, no sounds-and even the red power light turned off. Lew tried new batteries, but the REM pod still wouldn’t power on.

Hoping to communicate with the spirit, Lew switched to the flashlight method using a mini-Maglite. But that too started malfunctioning.

Just then, investigators Tommy and Leah entered the Dixie House to get ready for the next Para4ce Investigation. Lew told Tommy what had happened, knowing they’d both seen this kind of activity before. In fact, another investigator, John, once had a REM pod “killed” by a spirit at this location-a moment that was even caught on video and posted to YouTube. Tommy offered a backup REM Pod kept at the house, and they placed it on the same table as the first one.

Not long after, guest Michael claimed the new REM pod was “smoking.” Lew didn’t see any smoke, so he picked up the device to check for overheating. He sniffed it but didn’t detect anything unusual. Still, when he put it back on the table, both Michael and another guest, Cheryl, insisted they saw it again. They described it as a vapor, like dry ice smoke. Leah also witnessed it and described it as “a mist around the top of the pod that twisted into a wisp of smoke and wrapped around the antenna.”

Interestingly, during all this, the new REM pod never gave any alerts. Tommy even checked it with a thermal camera but found nothing out of the ordinary. Leah tried to take several photos of the mist, but after reviewing them, nothing showed up.

Although they weren’t able to capture clear evidence, the strange events and personal experiences made it a fascinating night at Dixie House.
